Career Centre

Career planning is a four-step process – knowing yourself, finding out, making decisions and taking action.

Knowing yourself means looking at your skills, your likes and dislikes and your values.

Finding out is simply research into what is out there.

Making decisions involves comparing the options.

And taking action means working towards your goals.

You can apply the four step planning process at every stage of your life – at school, leaving school, as an adult extending your skills or taking on new skills, or as an adult changing your job or career.

It pays to seek advice. The starting point is the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s Career Centre website.

Offering a wealth of information, the website tells you what is involved in no less than 450 occupations, it takes you through the career planning process, looks at the education and training occupations, and offers advice about the application and interview process.

The Career Centre also has a team of professional and friendly career practitioners that can work with you on an individual basis.

Talent Advantedge

Talent Advantedge works with young people to identify their strengths and talents.  This information leads them to discovering who they are, to finding the career path where they’ll best fit in and to enjoy it when they get there.

We also work with people at the other end of their career who are considering the transition to retirement.  We help plan for that very important step – lifestyle planning – which is critical in achieving a fulfilled and mentally healthy life after people leave their career job behind.

Suitable for ages 9 to 23, our youth programmes complement the education system and fill in the blanks.   We support and empower young people to be the best person they can be and, prepare them for the difficult job market they’re about to enter – that means all the practical aspects like preparing a CV, interview skills and, some real experience in a workplace.  At the same time, our powerful programmes are perfect for those lacking confidence or self-worth, who feel like they don’t fit in or feel bad for feeling different.

Our programmes are suitable for young people feeling like square pegs in round holes trying to find where they really fit in, young people who are looking for a clear sense of direction at any point of their journey whether in school, moving to college or already in the workplace and parents who want to see their children flourish.

The Electrical & Communications Association of Western Australia

EGT Electrical Apprenticeships made easy!

Electrical Group Training Ltd (EGT) is the largest employer of electrical apprentices in Western Australia with over 500 apprentices.

EGT employs apprentices and places them with a host employer for an agreed period of time (from 1 week to 4 years and anything in between), to gain a wide range of on-the-job experience. This not only meets the requirements of the apprenticeship but also produces well rounded tradespeople with a wide range of experience, something you don’t always get with a single employer.

EGT apprentices are, in turn, hosted by more than 200 electrical and communications contracting businesses throughout the state who work on a wide range of projects, from domestic through to the major commercial and industrial installations which ensures that apprentices gain on the job experience in all areas of the electrical industry.

Becoming an EGT apprentice assures young people of continuous employment and, at the successful conclusion of their apprenticeship, a nationally recognised trade qualification.

Becoming an EGT Host employer enables businesses to avoid having to commit to a full four year apprenticeship and having to become a recruitment, training or human resources expert while at the same time better managing their labour needs to cope with the peaks and troughs of work.

The College of Electrical Training (CET) is Western Australia’s largest provider of electrical training offering courses at pre-apprentice, apprenticeship and post trade levels.

Delivering to over 6,500 students per year across its two campuses (Jandakot and Joondalup) and a regional Trade Training Centre (Bunbury), CET ensures that all electrical training solutions are catered for  including a range of pre-apprenticeship and school based apprenticeship programs for year 11 and 12 students.

CET also delivers advanced post-trade training for Electrical fitters, electricians and contractors designed to up-skill the existing workforce.

CET’s training is delivered by a flexible mix of a face-to-face training, open learning and blended learning.

Students have the option to choose which delivery method suits their needs and can easily switch or even combine learning modes.  This is particularly beneficial for regional and remote students who can access quality training without the need to always physically attend one of the campuses.

This progressive approach is ensuring the electrical industry has a constantly growing pool of trained and qualified tradespeople.
